Planning your wedding ..... Choosing the Ceremony & Reception Venues

The Wedding industry has grown enormously over the past few years, its big business now, and your choice of venues is endless.

Choice of Venues will depend on Budget, Budget, Budget!!

The ceremony:

Many venues do both the ceremony and reception, or you may look at a church, obviously pick the right denomination, and then look at size and location.

Remember: a huge Cathedral is hardly appropriate for a wedding with 60 guests!

The Reception: Where you want to go.

There are wineries, beaches, mountains, country, trains, Planes and automobiles (yes garages) and every type of theme venue you can imagine, and the list goes on. You have some hard choices to make.

Some reception venues do it all , the ceremony the reception and many also have accommodation, this is where personal choice comes in and of course that all consuming Budget. Be very strict with yourself, yes you do have to absolutely love the place, but now is not the time to select on emotion alone.

Discard those that are too big or too small to cater your wedding, there is no point even looking at those. Select a couple from each category and see what you prefer. After you have viewed several places, selected some and rejected others, go and have a second look at those you particularly liked.

Have lists of questions and write them down - do not be afraid to ask. If you love the place great, BUT, is it practical, are you getting a great deal, is it available on your date and of course does it fit the budget?

Remember: Take some one neutral with you (Parents are great they are very practical) when you go to have a look at a venue for a second time, they will help give you perspective, when you have fallen in love with a particular venue. This is where the heart and the head battle for dominance.

So you found the perfect setting, for the ceremony and the reception:

But the date, you may not always get the date you want - be flexible if you want that venue, other dates may give you a better deal.

Saturdays in November and March book first, then any Saturday from from October to May - Sundays are sometimes more available and even Fridays. Keep an eye out for public Holidays, a Friday or a Sunday one either side of a long weekend may be the solution, and the Monday before Cup day is a great idea everyone takes the long weekend. These may be the solutions to getting the venue you want roughly when you want it.
